At least 22 people dead and ‘person of interest’ sought after shootings in Lewiston, Maine, officials say
At least 22 people are dead and dozens are injured following two shootings Wednesday night at a bowling alley and a restaurant in Lewiston, Maine, authorities say. An intensive manhunt is underway for a person of interest in the shootings, according to officials.
Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin, is a person of interest and should be considered armed and dangerous, Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner Mike Sauschuck said.
Law enforcement officials in Maine tell CNN that Card is a certified firearms instructor and a member of the US Army Reserve. Card had recently made threats to carry out a shooting at a National Guard facility in Saco, Maine, and also reported mental health issues, including hearing voices, the officials said.
At least 22 people were killed, Lewiston City Councilor Robert McCarthy told CNN, citing a city administrator.

On October 25, 2023, Robert Card, a former member of the United States Army Reserves, committed a sequence of mass shooting events resulting in upwards of 22 dead and 60 injured. At 7:15 PM E.S.T., Card was captured on surveillance footage arriving at the parking lot of a bar and bowling alley, after which he approached several businesses with a rifle, entered through their doorways one-by-one, and fired upon unsuspecting staff and clientele. Card had previously been diagnosed with psychological disorders and, during the months leading up to the shooting, had been involuntarily committed to the psychiatric unit of a Lewiston hospital on grounds of hearing voices instructing him to harm others.[41] Card's status as a mental defective prohibited him from lawfully possessing a firearm. A 2013 Subaru Outback was located at the parking lot, which authorities believe belonged to Card.[42] Card remains at large while law enforcement agencies coordinate to locate him.
