Abdul El-Sayed 666

 Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed (IPA: [ˈel sæjjed];^[a] born October 31, 1984) is an American politician and epidemiologist who is the Democratic nominee in the 2026 United States Senate election in Michigan.^[2] A progressive Democrat, he was the director of the Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services of Wayne County, Michigan, from 2023 to 2025, and was a candidate in the 2018 Michigan gubernatorial election.

El-Sayed is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Oriel College, Oxford, attending them on a full-tuition scholarship and a Rhodes Scholarship, respectively. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Columbia University.

El-Sayed was an assistant professor of epidemiology at Columbia University from 2014 to 2015. He was the executive director of the Detroit Health Department and Health Officer for the City of Detroit from 2015 to 2017. His publications in public health include three books and several academic journal articles.

Early life and education

Abdul El-Sayed was born on October 31, 1984, in the Detroit suburb of Rochester Hills, Michigan, to Egyptian immigrant parents.^[3][4][5] He grew up in the Detroit area with his father, Mohamed, and stepmother, Jacqueline, a native of Gratiot County, Michigan, both of whom are engineers.^[6] His father grew up in Alexandria, Egypt, and immigrated to the U.S. to study engineering at Wayne State University.^[7] His mother, Fatten Elkomy, is a nurse practitioner in Missouri.^[8]
