Buchanan is leading a congressional delegation to promote U.S. security interests in Ukraine and other countries. Buchanan is co-chairman of the House Democracy Partnership, a bipartisan, 20-member congressional commission that works directly with partner countries around the world to support the development of effective, independent, and responsive legislative institutions.
Joining Buchanan in the visit were Co-Chair David Price (D-NC), and Congressmen Dina Titus (D-NV), Michael Conaway (R-TX), Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Adrian Smith (R-NE), Barbara Lee (D-CA), and Terri Sewell (D-AL).
Authorized on March 14, 2005 as the House Democracy Assistance Commission, the mission of the HDP is to promote responsive, effective government and strengthen democratic institutions by assisting legislatures in emerging democracies. Central to its work is peer-to-peer cooperation to build expertise in partner legislatures that will enhance accountability, transparency, legislative independence, access to information, and government oversight.
