Nov. 19: County investigates initial sightings
On Tuesday, Nov. 19 the Morris County Prosecutor's Office confirmed in a press release that officers on patrol observed drone activity during the previous night. The alleged activity began to gain traction on social media.

Nov. 26: FBI steps in to investigate after more sightings are reported
On Tuesday, Nov. 26 a public affairs specialist with the FBI's Newark Office said that they were working with state and local partners on the reported drone activity. At this point, alleged sightings had come out of at least Morris and Warren counties.

Dec. 5: Gov. Murphy convenes with federal officials to discuss the reported sightings
On Dec. 5, Gov. Phil Murphy said that he convened a briefing with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, senior officials from the Department of Homeland Security, the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, and New Jersey State Police to discuss the ongoing situation.

By Dec. 7, drones had allegedly been spotted in at least eight North and Central Jersey counties including Bergen, Essex, Hunterdon, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Warren counties.

Dec. 8-9: Morris County mayors and NJ lawmakers demand action from federal government
Over the weekend, a letter signed by 19 elected officials, including a group of Morris County mayors, requested assistance from law enforcement agencies, the FAA, the Department of Homeland Security and NJ State Police. The letter said that those agencies had taken a "reactive instead of proactive approach" to the issue.

Dec. 9: 'This is something we are taking deadly seriously,' said Murphy
On Monday, Murphy responded to reporters' questions following the signing of a new law in Princeton, addressing the drone situation amid growing pressure from lawmakers. Murphy said that the drones are sophisticated enough to "go dark" once they are spotted.

"This is something we're taking deadly seriously," Murphy said, adding that while there has been "good cooperation out of the feds," he is pleading for more.

Dec. 10: FBI addresses frustrated congress
On Tuesday, an FBI official told members of Congress that the bureau had not yet identified an individual or group that may be responsible for the drone sightings in New Jersey.

Dec. 11: Pentagon refutes claims of Iranian 'mothership' off of the coast
On Wednesday, New Jersey Congressman Jeff Van Drew suggested that the mysterious alleged drone sightings are a result of an Iranian "mothership" this is currently sitting off of the coast and launching the reported drones

Dec. 12: White House, FBI, DHS release updated statements
During a press briefing on Thursday, John Kirby, the White House national security communications advisor, said that there is no evidence that reported drone sightings in New Jersey pose a national security or public safety threat.

Kirby told reporters that Homeland Security, the FBI and local and state law enforcement have used numerous "very sophisticated" detection methods to understand the alleged drones' origins, but that they have been unable to corroborate any of the reported visual sightings.

Dec. 13: Local police departments issue new drone advisories
On Friday morning, multiple local police departments issued new advisories pointing out that there is no known threat but asking residents to report any suspicious drone activity to the FBI.

The FBI, NJ State Police and the NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness are asking the public to report any information related to the recent sightings of possible drones by calling 1-800-225-5324 or submitting tips and video footage online at https://tips.fbi.gov/home.
