Dr Ardia says there is Starfish venom in corona virus. Here's a picture of one from the Gulf Of California.

Gee whiz what does THAT look like?

The crown-of-thorns starfish (frequently abbreviated to COTS), Acanthaster planci, is a large starfish that preys upon hard, or stony, coral polyps. The crown-of-thorns starfish receives its name from venomous thorn-like spines that cover its upper surface, resembling the biblical crown of thorns.

The eastern Pacific Acanthaster is very distinctive with its rather 'plump' body, large disk to total diameter ratio, and short, blunt spines.

Venomous snakes are species of the suborder Serpentes that are capable of producing venom, which they use for killing prey, for defense, and to assist with digestion of their prey. The venom is typically delivered by injection using hollow or grooved fangs, although some venomous snakes lack well-developed fangs. Common venomous snakes include the families Elapidae, Viperidae, Atractaspididae, and some of the Colubridae. The toxicity of venom is mainly indicated by murine LD₅₀, while multiple factors are considered to judge the potential danger to humans. Other important factors for risk assessment include the likelihood that a snake will bite, the quantity of venom delivered with the bite, the efficiency of the delivery mechanism, and the location of a bite on the body of the victim. Snake venom may have both neurotoxic and hemotoxic properties. There are about 600 venomous snake species in the world.

Large populations of crown-of-thorns starfish (sometime emotively known as plagues

Triton's trumpet (Charonia tritonis) is one of the main predators of A. planci.

Looks like the eye of Horus is the main predator of the crown of thorns. lol They do love their jokes!

The starfish has outbreaks called plagues. lol

In popular culture[edit]

  • In Premendra Mitra's story "Kanta" (কাঁটা), Ghanada saves the Pacific coral reefs and atolls from crown-of-thorns starfishes.

  • In his novel Thin Air, author Richard K. Morgan compares the predatory behaviour of a solar system-scale corporation to the feeding style of A. planci.
  • In Pokémon Sun and Moon, the Pokémon Mareanie and Toxapex are based on A. planci.
  • In Octonauts and the Great Barrier Reef, the Octonauts defend the coral reef from an army of hungry crown-of-thorns starfish.
  • In Stranded Deep, Crown-of-Thorns are a constant danger on the beaches and shallow waters of the various islands throughout the game.

The poison of the crown-of-thorns starfish contains saponin, a chemical component that is deadly to both humans and fish.

Severe reaction of the starfish sting:

Nausea and vomiting
Headache
Breathing difficulty
Stiffness in joints
Intense coughing and spasm of the bronchi.
Muscular weakness and spasm.
In rare cases when the body has reacted severely to the toxin, it may lead to paralysis.

Some species of starfish are venomous to human beings namely ‘the crown of thorns’ and ‘sun star fish’.

SEATTLE — After months of research, scientists have identified the pathogen at the heart of the wasting disease that’s been killing starfish by the millions along the Pacific shores of North America, according to research published Monday.

They said it’s a virus that’s different from all other known viruses infecting marine organisms. They’ve dubbed it “sea star associated densovirus.”

“When you look on a scale of hundreds and hundreds of animals, which we did, it’s very clear that the virus is associated with symptomatic sea stars,” said Ian Hewson, a microbiologist at Cornell University and lead author of the study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Saponins: Everything You Need to Know

Saponins are a group of bitter-tasting chemicals that naturally occur in plants. They get their name from their ability to form soap-like foams in water. The latin word for soap is sapo. Interestingly, saponins are responsible for the foamy substance you see when you soak beans.

Saponins are natural pesticides and contribute to the 5,000 to 10,000 natural pesticides you consume everyday.

Infertility

Research shows that saponins can have detrimental effects on fertility. In fact, some saponins possess abortifacient, anti-zygotic, and anti-implantation properties. [19]

For example, intravenous administration of broom weed and agave saponins above 2-3 mg/kg body weight induced abortion and death in rabbits, goats, and cows. Other saponins have also shown to cause sterility and terminate pregnancies in rats and mice.

Interestingly, extracts of a saponin-containing plant called Mussaenda pubescens are used as a contraceptive in China.

Research shows that saponins have mixed results on fertility in humans. One study found that some saponins increase sperm motility and progression whereas others act as a spermicide.

Saponins may play a role in infertility because their chemical structure resembles that of reproductive hormones. This causes saponins to compete with hormones at receptors, which may disrupt hormone levels necessary for reproduction. [20]

Pokémon Sun and Moon (33 languages) released 11/17/2017
11/17/17 to 10/18/2019 = 700 days
Or 1 year, 11 months, 1 day
Or 23 months, 1 day

The games take place on a tropical archipelago, a group of islands known as the Alola region. Joe Skrebels of IGN describes it as "Pokémon's take on Hawaii".[26] During an interview at E3 2016, Shigeru Ohmori noted that Game Freak staff took trips to Hawaii to conduct research for Sun and Moon.
