A Chicago-based Communist group blamed for stoking violence in Milwaukee following the police-involved shooting of Sylville Smith claimed they sought to “support a revolution.”
Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn blamed members of the Chicago chapter of the Revolutionary Communist Party for turning a peaceful night into a tense one after leading people down several blocks while toppling orange construction barriers in the process.
Carl Dix, co-founder of the Revolutionary Communist Party, praised the protests as a “righteous rebellion” and blamed law enforcement for the violence in Milwaukee.
Bob Avakian, the founder and current head of the Revolutionary Communist Party, had previously sought to head the faction of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) that became known as the Weather Underground.
The Weathermen, under leader Bill Ayers, waged a campaign of violence in the 1970s to overthrow the United States government.
