Wow, that Daniel Libeskind certainly has been busy designing ugly buildings. I looked him up and he was the architech for the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. I live outside of Toronto and remember the hoopla when they put the hideous addition on the ROM. It is awful. Looking at his wiki page I discovered he is married into to a very, very prominent Jewish family in Canada, his wife's brother is Stephen Lewis and her father was a Rhodes scholar and huge in the socialist movement.
ReplyDeleteI keep finding these "crazy eights" connections too. I find the year 1776 to 2019 have this connection. One that startled me was from March 28, 1776 which was the 88th day as 1776 was a leap year. On that date Juan Bautista de Anza and 247 colonists discover the "Presidio" site in what becomes San Francisco, which was named after Francis of Assisi about 6 months later.
From March 28, 1776 (88th day) to August 10, 2019 (Tisha b'av August 10-11/19) = 88,888 days!

This site is now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area which includes Alcatraz and SF 88 Nike Missile Site which is now a museum.
Alcatraz was a military museum before becoming a federal prison. On August 11, 1934 the 1st 137 federal prisoners arrived!
Whitey Bulger spent time there later, which may connect with his recent death.

Richard Oakes was an activist who did a Sit In at Alcatraz in the 60's!!!

Interesting the date it falls this coming year, of course it lands on the 88th day, lol. I didn't even notice Stephen Lewis was born 11/11 either, even though I looked him up. When I was a teenager in the suburbs of Toronto, one of my friends lived next door to this clan, the Lewis'. Her father was a prominent veterinarian so they lived in a nice area. I didn't take much notice of them but I remember my friend saying "the Lewis' were weird", lol. I noticed Stephen Lewis' son Avi is married to Naomi Klein. Thanks for sharing.
