A snake seen crawling between the stones of Israel's Western Wall has sparked claims that a prophecy about the Messiah's coming is about to be fulfilled.
The claims were made after video of the snake scaring away a pigeon was posted on YouTube before being picked up by Hebrew bloggers.
The bloggers claim the symbol of a pigeon fleeing a snake shows we are living in 'dangerous times' directly pre-dating the coming of the Messiah.
'The evil inclination, personified by the snake in Eden, will make a resurgence in the days before Messiah,' the bloggers were quoted as saying by Breaking Israel News.
It comes after several other incidents at the Temple Mount which have been interpreted as religious signs.
Four months ago a large piece of stone fell from the Western Wall, almost crushing a woman who had gone there to pray.
One kabbalist - or mystic - interpreted it as a sign that the Third Temple should be built, because the stone fell the morning after Tisha B’Av, which is a fast to commemorate the destruction of the first two temples.
The construction of the Third Temple is supposed to predict the Messiah's coming.
Shortly afterward, a large cloud of dust billowed up from inside the Temple Mount Compound, surrounding the Dome of the rock for several minutes.
One rabbi suggested the dust revealed a conflict taking place on the spiritual plane.
